Frequently Asked Questions - Bouldering Melbourne

WHAT IS BOULDERING?

arrow
Bouldering is a form of rock climbing that takes place on shorter walls without the use of ropes or harnesses. In our indoor climbing gym, bouldering offers a social and dynamic experience, with climbers often sharing tips and encouragement. One of the great advantages is that you can be ready to climb in no time – just slip on your climbing shoes and start tackling the problems. It's a fantastic way to build strength, improve problem solving, and connect with a vibrant community.

WHO CAN CLIMB?

Bouldering is an accessible, inclusive sport suitable for people of all ages, genders, and fitness levels. At The Crux, we believe anyone can enjoy the fun and challenge of climbing, whether you're a complete beginner or a seasoned climber. Our route-setting team thoughtfully design climbs for every skill level, from entry-level problems to advanced routes, ensuring a supportive and engaging experience for everyone. Whether you're stepping onto the mats for the first time or aiming to push your limits, there's a climb for you at The Crux!

WHAT'S THE AGE LIMIT?

arrow
At The Crux, we welcome climbers aged 12 and up. Due to the height of our walls, smaller climbers may find the experience a bit more challenging. Our age limit is in place to ensure a safe, enjoyable experience for all. Please note that climbers under 16 must be accompanied and supervised by an adult over 18. Waivers for minors must be completed by a parent or legal guardian. If you're a competition or experienced youth climber seeking an exemption from our age limit, feel free to reach out to us via email.

CRUX CULTURE

We strive to create a safe and supportive environment where climbers of all backgrounds and abilities can feel comfortable pushing their limits and improving their skills. At our gym, we believe that climbing is for everyone, and we are dedicated to making sure that everyone who enters our doors feels valued and respected.

With this in mind, we have a few 'Crux Culture' policies in place;
1. Keeping your shirt on while climbing
2. Asking before giving beta (advice) on a climb
3. Share the space and be mindful of others around you.
4. Inclusivity - we welcome ALL climbers into our space

DO I HAVE TO BOOK?

arrow
We do not require bookings for First Timers or small groups, just come on in when it suits you! On your first visit our staff will run you through a quick safety induction and answer and questions you may have. You can save some time by completing our waiver and watching our safety video here online.

If you are looking to bring a group of 15+ or host an event get in contact with us for group rates!

CAN I BRING MY DOG?

arrow
Absolutely! We have quite a few regular doggos who come to The Crux and we have a number of dog beds and bowls available. We just require that they remain on their leash and tied to a secure spot to keep them safe and respect other climber's space.
